Reimagining China’s Terracotta Warriors exhibition coming to Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é London

The exhibition at will be the only UK showing of . It features the work of artists from every country in the EU – including renowned Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é sculptor – as well as three from China.

The exhibition was instigated by Dr Pick Keobandith in 2012 to build on existing Sino-EU cultural relations. The London exhibition is being produced by John Atkin.

Twenty-eight EU and three contemporary Chinese artists were invited by Dr Keobandith and Shaanxi Museum to visit the world renowned Terracotta Warriors in Xian, China, and to consider ways that these icons of Emperor Qin’s reign could be reinterpreted.

Each artist made a sculpture that responded to this ancient collection in different ways, reflecting an aspect of their own individual culture within the EU.

The results have already been exhibited throughout China at a number of museums and galleries in order to widen the appreciation of European contemporary art. It has also toured across Europe, and is due to travel to Rotterdam later this year before ending in Belgium in 2017.

The exhibitions have been an unprecedented success, drawing large crowds and international awards. The London exhibition will be held in the Here East building, opposite the main entrance to Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é London on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park campus from 3-28 October.

“We are delighted to be bringing this internationally acclaimed exhibition to our London campus,” John Atkin said. “It is the perfect location to display work that celebrates Sino-European relations and is an event not to be missed.”

Entrance to Dialogue with the Emperor Qin’s Warriors is free and the exhibition will be open 11am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 11am to 4pm each Saturday and 12 noon to 4pm each Sunday.

The London exhibition has received support from the Higher Education Innovation Fund to increase the cultural diversity of the Olympic Park.
