New identity launched for Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Lightning women’s cricket team
The new contemporary brand has been strongly influenced by the University’s visual identity and Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s sporting heritage by utilising a shield design with a striking lightning bolt running through it.
The brand also captures the iconic purple, pink and silver colours which all Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é sports teams play in.
John Steele, Executive Director of Sport at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é said:
“I am delighted that we have today launched our striking new brand identity for our team who will represent the University in the inaugural Women’s Cricket Super League.
“Not only does the brand provide a great identity for the Lightning women’s cricket team it also complements our ‘Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Students’ sport brand in which our teams and players continue to lead the way in student sport and national competitions.”
The inaugural season will see the six new teams take part in a round-robin Twenty20 competition from 30 July to 14 August. The tournament will feature 15 group matches in 16 days and climax with a finals day on 21 August at the Essex County Ground in Chelmsford.
Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Lightning will play on the opening day of the new league away against Yorkshire Diamonds at Headingley on 30 July.
The University will then host three home matches against Lancashire Thunder (3 August), Western Storm (5 August) and Surrey Stars (12 August). Lightning will also play away against Southern Vipers on 14 August.
